I'm lookin into buying a 250R, except i need to know which one i should get and why. I"m gonna by one that's stock or close to stock. I"ve heard the 88 and 89's are better, but you can get the 86 and 87's a whole lot cheaper. I've also heard that they run the same speed, just the 88's handle a little better? is it true? I'll mainly be riding in woods, open fields, and will be doin some jumping. I plan on adding a pipe to the quad, prolly an lrd adjustable so i can tune it for the woods. Also i need to know what parts are interchangeable between the years 86 and 89's. If i switched the swingarm from and 88, and put it on an 86, would i have to have an 88 shock too? and what else? The main question is which one should i get, and why?

If you have a choice between the 2 go with a 88 or 89. The swingarm are shorter on the 88 and 89 and this makes it alittle eaiser to turn in the woods. Almost all of the parts are the same on all years, there are a few things that are different but look the same. I have worked with both and I like the 88/89's better.

Both years are great machines and will outhandle anything on the track or in the woods. I have an 86 and love it. I also have a 400Ex and love it too. You or I would hardly notice the handling differences between an 86 or 89. As for jumping, they are both great flyers. The swingarms are not interchangeable between 86-7 and 88-9 because of a different mounting set up. You could do some welding to the 86 to accept the 88-9 arm but it would be costly. All in all, you have made the right choice in choosing a Honda. Which ever you choose, 86 or 89, you will be extremely happy.

I have an 88 that is pretty close to stock. In stock running trim, they are pretty tame. I put the FMF Fatty on and I couldn't believe the difference. I am not going to tell you that it is faster than a Banshee, but on dirt roads, or areas where traction is fair, I pull piped Banshees through 4th gear, then the Banshee's catch up and by 6th, about 5 mph faster than me. Not too bad considering very few tracks allow you to run WFO very often. The handling on the 'R' is by far, superior to any other quad out there.

Well I have an 86 that IS faster than a piped banshee.It handles awesome.Thanks to a wider axle,white bro's shocks,JD performance +2 A-arms,a dn holeshots all the way around.It is ported,bored .020 over with wiseco piston,FMF gold series fatty pipe,power core 2 silencer,boyesen reeds,no air box lid,uni filter,jetted correctly.

My freind has a full trinity 330 so he knows what fast is and he said my bike pulls real hard for not being a big bore.

I think either way you go you will be extremly happy with whatever one you get.

I like how the light is mounted on the 88 - 89!
Even though most R owners put race plastic on thier R's

I got to ride a stock banshee today for the first time, and it flat out hauls! But i'm used to riding a muddin 3004x4 so. I was just wonderin if the 250R will haul like that too? I wasn't holdin on too tight the first time and it bout ran out from under me.

Go with an 88 or 89 I've owned both years and they handle better than the 86 and 87.The swingarm setup is differt on the 86 and 87, but the 86 and 87 swingarm won't interchange with each other. And for the woods try a Paul Turner type 6 pipe and Fat boy silencer.

89 Trx250R
New Frame, New oem plastic, Roll a-arms, Ohlins Shocks RPM axle, carrier, and Frt hubs, Roll stem, IMS tank, PEP dampener, Full PRM plates, PRM baja bumper and grabbar, Protapers, CR250 twist, paul turner type 6 and fatboy, Pyramid valve, And the list goes on

I'm sorry man, but I don't believe there is a quad out there that has the umph that the banshee has! I've have rode many modded R's, but they don't have that pull that the banshee has.

01 400ex - TCS shocks all around, AC bumper and propeg nerf bars, 14 tooth sprocket

01 banshee - bone stock

I don't know why people find it so hard to believe that the Banshee can be beat. Today there was a 440EX that was faster than any piped Banshee at pinal air park. That is from start to finish, even top speed. Banshee's are very fast, but they are not unbeatable.
