im changing the filter on my 450r (2006) and i see the oil cap has 3 ports for oil to flow through but there looks to be 4 holes on the motor, which way does that cap go. I have it placed so that there is a port going to the top bottom and back of the machine. I thgink this is right but want to make sure.

 

What year??? 04/05's are a little different from 06/07....

Just ignore where the ports are on the inside. The bolt holes should only line up if you have the cap turned in the right direction! Shouldn't be any big deal....if it is in the wrong direction it won't bolt up....

Do be sure that you got the oil filter the right direction, and the spring is in there on the inside....

 

its an 06 and i think that the bolts go in no matter which way, but maybe not ill rechek

 

If I remember right there is a little arrow or triangle that should be pointing up. I might be thinking of the cover on my z400. One or the other has it, I'm pretty sure it's on the 06 450R. Go take a look.

 

It looks to be close ,but the cover only goes on with the holes lined up one way and make sure the oil filter is in correct or else boom!!!! the engine will be shot.
