I am new here. I just bought my first ATV, i have always liked the hondas and when i saw that honda kinda re-did the rancher and put a 420 on it and Fuel injected it i was on board. so here i am.
My name is Dean, i am about to turn 22 in june. my other ride is a 2000 BMW Roadster hence why my name is 2kredz3
couple things, i wont more power. . i have riden my wheeler every weekend since i got it. . .(its been about a month) and i ride mostly with a guy that has a 450R. . .well he just re-jetted his and i cant even keep up now. . .
i have seen a lot of things that are for the rancher 400 such as exhaust and such. . .but will that work with the 420? also i found a in-line computer tuned for the f/i does anyone have one of these? hows it work?
I look forward to hanging out with you all! l8ter

Welcome to the thread!
While I don't know what all can be done to the Rancher, I'm sure after market pipes will be coming out for it. Probably also some custom fuel mapping for the FI such as the Power Commander like they have for the Raptor 700.
No matter what you do to it, you will not be able to keep up with your friends 450R on wide open trails and logging roads. You will have an advantage in mud holes and highly technical trails.
Stick around these forums, alot of good info can be learned here.

Thanks for the welcome! we take turns picking the trails. . .i usually pick the technical type slow 4 wheeling trails with some logging trails through it. . .he usually picks the tracks and wide open type places where i would be in 4th and 5th gear all the time. . .and he is in 3rd
here are some pics of me on a track that we go to. . .its kinda like a cross country type track with jumps all through it.

Thing is, when you make a quad go faster, pretty much all you do is end up outriding its suspension! Your Rancher is a trail quad....not a high speed whoop eater like the 450R is! A good rule is to do the suspension first, then mess around with the motor....
I have not seen any aftermarket exhausts, much less suspension yet for this machine. I think Dinojet has some. Just be patient, and see what comes out of the aftermarket in the days to come.
And...if you need to keep up with a 450R, you are going to need a 450R!

you speak truth about that. . . i just want at lease 3/4 the hp he has. . .i believe mine comes with like 29 hp and his comes with 43
also you are very right about the suspension. . .it is very very hard to get an atv as big as the rancher to land soft after jumps as high as i was jumping in the pics above where as he was breezing through it. . .
dont get me wrong. . .i know i wont be "keeping up with him" i just want to think i am

I use to have a Rancher 350 2wd. It came with huge balooney rear tires. I would air them down, then go out to a local area where the kids gather to do jumps. I could bust out some pretty big air on that thing, providing I landed rear end low on those big cushy tires. Left more than a few kids sitting there with their mouths hanging open....
Out in the desert, a utility is pretty much lame unless all you are into is going looking for terrifying terrain (I ride the Rancher almost exclusively at high altitude in the mountains). I could never hope to keep up with a group of sport quads, so the only answer is to have both a ute and sport machine!
