VERY IMPORTANT QUESTIONS THAT NEEDS AN ANSWER

If you REALLY want to feel the power on a dirtbike, get a 2 stroke. If you want smooth power that is attainable even at lower RPM's then a 4 stroke is gonna suit you. My yz125 beats my 450R and my buddies Rappy 700 out of the gates everytime. Think what you could do on a yz250!

nah, 2 stroke dirtbikes arent for me- the old lt250r and trx250r and tecate are pretty sweet tho
I doubt you could still run newer 2 strokes without a rebuild for 250hours like the old 250r's, nowadays they are just pushed to hard for every ounce of power they can get to keep up with teh 450 4strokes

i'd look at an outlaw 525, they have all kinds of torque and top speed, nothing is gonna compete with a dirt bike, but there is a lot of maintenance in both of those bikes, you have to do your major service on the crf 250 after 10 hrs and you'll be putting new valves in both of em after 20 or 30 hrs of riding because of how they are made. and the trx and yfz quads are the same way. the 400ex is like having the xr 400 dirt bike, not the fastest in the group, but runs forever. the outlaw doesn't have as high of a compression ratio, and puts out more power than the trx and the yfz and is a lot more reliable in that sense.

looks like you already have a good woods/trail quad with the ds, so i would'nt waste my time on the 400. if you want a quad that rips like a bike, then i would go with any of the 450,s just add a pipe, hrc kit or hot cam, 'let your thumb go',and hold on tight! as far as getting the wheels off the ground' just hit the gas and lean back. as for boost off the start, it seems like a quad always gets the holeshot, probably becouse you have more weight on wider tires=better traction. back that up with a good 450 power plant and you might want to lean 'forward', not back!

i agree with kerbmonster , if ya got the cash the 525 is a plush ride with reverse! i test drove one two days ago and they pull hard at top end , a little on the high side as fare as cash go's but i have to admit ,on a tight trail id take it over my 450r all day
