Its the best 2wd mudder money can buy...does great. The stock tires aren't to good in the mud but put some Super Swamper TSL's on the back and it would do awesome.

I have had my 98 Recon since the baby was brand new in 98. The first day I got it I got some Super Swampers because it was Monsoon Season outhere in Arizona so there would be a lot of rain. Although I only use the swampers a few times a year to go mud boggin I found that the Recon kicks *** in the mud. I've only got it stuck once in the mud but that was because I was comparing the stock tires to the Swampers. Plus the mud was about up to the racks. I never used the stocks to much in the mud but I think they should hold up pretty well.

We use Sur Traks for our tires on the Recon. These mud tires made a difference over the stock tires. Better traction, the only downside is they are about 1/4 shorter than advertised.

How do the Swampers do in the sand and hard pack?
How is the ride?

The Recon kicks some major butt in mud! Mine still has the Goodyear stockers on it and I rarely get stuck...only in the super soft swamp mud here in Ga. It's so nice that it pulls through mud so well because you don't have to deal with the 500 pounds of four wheel drive...I like my 373 of quad weight; it makes it easier for me to play around with it

I've had better rides in the sand and hard pack. They do not control that great in sand and are a little wheazy in the hard pack. That is why I only use them once a year in the monsoon season. I stick to my paddles for sand and desert and my stocks for hard pack.

Even though I have other atv's, which are faster, but if it's been rainin' for a while, I can take out the recon and tear around better than any Hi-Performance ATV (not scramblers because I don't consider a 600lb atv High Performance). Bottom line: The recon is a pure blast to screw around on in the mud!
