Lots of guys answering these questions. Now I have one, how many women are in this forum? I know of three of us... there has to be more.
Tried something different with the pics. Couldn't

I'm here too! Just went riding a few days ago in the North Ga mountains in 20 degree weather; first time ever being that silly . I know you ride a 300ex; I ride a Recon and maybe next year a 400ex. What type of terrain do you ride? I do woods, sand dunes, and motocross tracks (mostly woods trails, though). I love being the only woman rider in our group. Usually my husband and I ride with about 4-6 other guys, and suprisingly, I'm usually not the weakest rider in the group. My downfall as a rider is a slight lack of bravery. I don't like to ride the trails in 4th gear, and I don't like to climb vertical hills just for the heck of it. It's great, though; as long as I'm physically able to ride, I will!

That is so great trailqueen! You sound just like me. I just sold my Recon to buy my 300ex. I was going to buy the 250ex, but I couldn't wait that long, and my hubby convinced me that I could shift with no problems, he was right. We ride mostly wooded trails too. The sand dunes are too far away, and we haven't made it there yet, this summer we will. I haven't tried the hills yet, I am also a coward. I don't know how to adjust my weight to keep the quad on the hill. Wait... I don't weigh enough to help me anyway! LOL...
We do have a place called Bull Gap that has a good size hill, but I will never climb it, Gordon thinks otherwise, but I will never give in. There aren't any women that ride with us either. In fact, there are just the two of us.

You know I'm here too!!!!
I like the trails the best and I'll try some of those hillclimbs too. I want to try the sand this summer sometime!!!
I ride with only guys right now!! I hope to add a few other women to our group this year but I am not holding my breath. They don't know what they are missing!!!
lilgirlblue...I bet you will try some hills before all is said and done!!! You'll see...
How did you all get into this sport?? I'll make a long story short and just say it was my husband's idea and he created an ATVing addict!!

Hills!!! I have had a few experiences with hills the past two rides from my friend's house in NC. These trails are not the average well-groomed safety oriented national forest trails. They are fun and exciting because they have been forged by atvers. But that also means there are some gnarly and dangerous things. My weakest riding skill is hill climbing because of the weight issue, still learning and fear factor. Yesterday I turned mine on its side going up a steep little hill. The guys kept telling me I have to lean forward more. I especially have to lean forward more than the guys twice my size!!!!! There is only so much of my 125lb frame that can contribute to holding the front end down unless I sit on the handlebars LOL! And the 400EX has a notoriously light front end as does the 300EX. I had a huge crash down a hill the prior time I rode there. I was hardly even hurt though. But yesterday I exaggerated the forward lean on hills to start training my brain to do that instinctively. I am also working on my log-jumping skills. The great thing is that as my friends (all guys I ride with) see me conquer something they have encouraged me to do, they are also proud of me and cheer me on. I did much better on log-jumping yesterday so that was fun.

I know there are other women riders out there but until women figure out how fun this is, we are always going to be outnumbered. For example, Saturday I was with a group of 17 riders. I was the only girl and I led the way most of the time because I knew the trails. Imagine the reaction you get when you pass other groups on the trails and they see a woman leading a bunch of guys!!! Pretty funny! The best part is they are willing for me to lead because I am one of the fastest riders. It is rare for me to ride with another woman. I just meet very few. I have only met one gal who has become a very dear friend who rides aggressive but we haven't ridden together in a couple of months as she has been trying to get her quad fixed. The cool thing is that the guys I ride with ride very fast and aggressive and I am constantly learning from them. The more I ride with them the more I come out of my comfort zone and thinking like a girl when it comes to riding. I still have a much bigger fear factor than the guys. I am just not interested in getting hurt any more than I have to. But as far as being polite and not wanting to injure those fragile male egos, I have gotten over a lot of that. They accept me as a competent rider and don't expect me to act any different than them. In fact, one of my buddies jokes and swears I am not a girl, I am a rider. He says girls don't ride like I do. He is the same friend who has shown me how fun it is to do obnoxious things like bump tires, try to pass each other and his best trick is riding up beside someone and turning off their switch to cut the engine off. I don't think I am going to be able to do the engine cut off trick but I did get into the atv derby yesterday. I couldn't quit laughing it was so fun. He tried to pass me in a plowed up field and I knew he was going to try and so I pegged mine out and he couldn't pass me. We both ride 400s and his even has an aftermarket pipe (white bros I think). I was so delighted to prevent that pass!!!! Of course, then he used the weight excuse that he weighs more and it was slowing him down. We joke a lot because he says he only weighs 10lbs more and he is 210lbs. Not only is this the best sport in the world in my opinion but I am lucky enough to ride with some really fun guys.

So, trailqueen, where did you ride in GA? Was it designated forest trails or elsewhere? I have ridden at Beasley's **** and Toccoa in GA. I live in SC but ride in NC more. Our riding in SC lacks. I am going to ride a motorcross track again in 2 wks in SC. I have photos of our first time there in my photo albums but hope to get video this time. It is fun on those jumps.

How long have you two been riding? I rode on the back of my husband's Warrior from Jan '98 to May or June of '98 until I decided when he wrecked us it was time for me to be on my own. So from the middle of '98 until now I have been riding on my own, with no prior experience.

There is nothing wrong with being scared to do something. There have been times I have let my more experienced friends take mine up something that I could imagine me doing a big crash on. The fastest guys I ride with have been riding either dirt bikes or four wheelers since childhood. I do think fear can hold us back from reaching our fullest potential BUT lack of fear can cause us to do things at a much higher risk level. That is why I say lots of prayers before I go ride!!!! I look forward to hearing more from a female perspective! Maybe we should do a post and ask the guys what they think of women in this sport. Now, that could be interesting. Angelon400ex

Well ladies, you all have much more nerve than I.
I am terrified of going up and down hills. It may be because of the quad I was riding, or it my be my lack of skill. But, I think now, with my 300ex, I may get a little better. I am like Angela, I don't like to get hurt. I have already broken several bones in the past two years of riding, I don't want to break anymore if I don't have to. I love just cruising the trails and checking out the scenery and the wildlife. On my last ride of season in the fall I happened on a bear and her cub. Now that was thrilling! Angela, how do you jump a log? That is one I haven't tried yet. I am getting good at the donut thing, and better at shifting. Now I have to find something else to practice at! LOL... Wonder if I can break my head doing that?! I do want to learn how to jump, even if it is just a little one.

Ride on Ladies...
not so blue anymore!
