Default rubicon shifter question

just aquired a 06 rubicon. the shifter has a button to push when shifting gears. this one does not require you to push button. it will shift into any gear without the button. does any one out there have this problem also. any idea as to what would cause this? thanks

It should operate as a full auto or you can shift among pre-selected ratios with the buttons depending on which mode you have it in... If it's in auto mode, the shift buttons won't do anything.

Are you talking about the the button on the side of the gear selector or the two up and down buttons on the handlebar?

I think he's talking about the lock release on the T handle shifter, not the electronic gear shifter bottons on the handlebars. You must have a linkage froze in the release position. It's pretty easy to check out by pulling the side cover off. Also take the 2 set screws out of the **** and pull it off. It might just need a good cleaning.

yes its the shifter on the side. the cover is off and i have had the shifter off. the only thing there is a white pointed plastic piece that sticks up out of the shifter rod and up in the handle when you push the button you can see a piece slide back and forth. the piece thats in the rod will not move up or down. all is clean as bike only has 600 miles on it.

Then it's stuck in the release position. Try gently pulling it up with a pair of pliars, then squirt some oil in to get it freed up.
