Default New Guy needs help for a 84 TRX 200

Hello all, my son is handicapped and loves to hunt so we have been trying to find an atv that we can afford. A church member gave us a 84 trx 200 that has been sitting for 2 years. The carb is in a box ( disassembled ) and I have ordered a rebuild kit. The gas tank is rusted on the inside so I put some BBs in it and shake it then dump it about 2 or 3 times a day. The main problem is, I have charged the battery but when I turn the key on the lights won't work nor the starter. The fuse next to the battery is good. I've read a post by someone else with a 300 that is having the same problem. Is there a troubleshooting guide that I can use? I'm going to town and have the battery tested and replaced if necessary. I would really appreciate it if you all could help me get this thing going for my boy. It would make him so happy. Thanks in advance and God Bless you all.

i would get a new gas tank still even though your shaking bbs inside it.... even a little rust inside of the card can cause trouble

Can someone PLEASE tell me what I need to check to see why I have no power ? Once again, the battery is fine and the fuse next to the battery is good, but when you turn the key to the "on" position, the neutral light nor the reverse light will come on and of course, the starter doesn't work.Is there any way to troubleshoot this problem?

i dont know everything about electrical parts but my i got a fourwheeler and the guy who gave it to him didnt give him a key so he tapped in to the igniton but my electric start wen tout and i had to pull the seat off and take a screwdriver and touch the screwdriver on bothe sides of the solenoid that the wires from the battery go to and if it dosent try to start then it probably is the ignition

We clean rusted tanks , several older bikes come in every year .. We use (about 100) nuts & bolts (size approx 8mm) and about 1-2 liters of gas in the tank then it takes a lot of shaking and turning the tank over , sidways , upside down , on it end etc etc etc ...

If you need shop manual sections post or PM your email address..

hello
I would start with a new ignition switch. If the bike has been sitting for some time the switch could be defective
