Haven't owned a 300 in a dozen years, but I am betting it is a breather that will have a hose going off to the airbox or intake boot.

You are doing this without a shop manual to refer to????

That is a crank breather. In 99 they looped it into the carb, via the intake tube. 98 and before it was vented to the geound, basically. All you will need to do is put a hose on it and point it down.

If your air intake has a hole in it, plug it.

well sadly one of our good friends took out the last engine and bolted this new one into place. Then, he gave up. So me and my dad were trying to put it together sort of guessing as we went.

We were able to get everything done and the motor actually starts up great...however we have nothing to connect this part to.??!?!

Now we just need to figure this part out then move onto why it smokes so freaking bad when we start it!!!

(we haven't dared let it idle for more than 10 seconds because of all the smoke produced.) The engine was bought used, but looks ok...

So, if anyone owns a 300ex, it would be great if you could check where yours goes...thanks, and talk to you later!

You need to re-build it. Sounds like you got an engine that was either over heated or ran without an air cleaner. Probably doesn't have any rings left in the pistons.

If that is a crank breather it will probably need some kind of filter on it if you cant connect it back to the intake tube
