25 and 26 inch vamps will not fit under your fenders without a lift kit. They are also too heavy for the stock 300. I have 24 and 25 and they took away alot of power.

Matt, i'm going to get a lift kit, monster performance kit then maybe in the future a piston/cam package from highlifter....then do you think that it would dig a hole with a rope tied to a tree hooked to the hitch?

The Honda 300 does lose a noticable amount of power when mounted with 24 & 25" Vampires. I have a friend who has the 24-25" setup with a lift kit and a friend who has the 25x9.50x11 and 25x12x11 setup (which is actually 24.5" and 25.3" which will work OK too) without a lift kit.

Neither of them have any power adding modifications. Nore will they spin the tires when hooked to a tree when in first, but they can in reverse. Mainly because in reverse the rear tires leave the ground so the only tires that need to be puled are the narrow front tires.

BTW, I have seen Honda 300's mounted with 25" front and 26" rear Bi-Claw/Tri-Claw tires who didn't have a lift kit and they seemed to work fine.

NOTE: With a lift kit installed (and factory offset wheels) you WILL need to add a pair of wheel spacers to the front hubs!!!

Sincerely,

The 25 and 26 inchers would fit with a lift kit. You are still going to lose alot of power even with the performance kit from highlifter it won't be as much but will still be noticed ask Gordon about that. E-mail jeff at highlifter he is the 300 expert and will be able to tell you exactly how his 300 performs with 25 and 26 inch vamps on it with the performance kits and piston cam package. His e-mail address is jeff@highlifter.com.

Please consider this ;I have replaced a number of broken front axles on 3004x4s recently when the big tires became the rage around here can,t say they caused it directly but I know several of the owners said they believed it was due to the tires hooking up and causing strain on the driveline.

Hey "Mud"

Couple of things:
1) I have a 1998 Honda 300 4x4. It has the High Perf kit (Torque cam included). I have 26x12 rear and 25x9 front Vamps.

2) I can assure you with 26x12 rear and 25x9 fronts - you WILL NOT pass the tree test unless the ground is VERY HARD and VERY SLICK.

3)You do not need a lift kit for these tires - I have no lift kit and mine fit just fine... In fact I got the idea from looking at a stock 99 300 at the Honda delaership.

4)Even with the High Perf kit (cam included) from Hi-Lifter - You will not pass the tree test.

5)I do not have the piston, so I cannot vouch for what it will or will not do. It would have to be considerable to make the tires spin. With just the kit I have, It will get around pretty well - The only place you will have difficulty is in DEEP GOOEY mud - It won't spin the tires there either... I made it through where 2 Wolverines couldn't (they grounded) - but I REALLY did not like the sensation of full throttle and the tires barely turning.... Didn't like it one bit. Using the 26x9 in rear might help some - they are a bit lighter that the 12" and it would give you the same clearance.

If you are really wanting to do this - Go for it, Do what make you happy - Just be forwarned that is a lot of tire. I would recommend getting the power side first.

Good luck with your choices.

I was thinking about what all of you have told me and thanks alot. But i still have some more questons, when you put bigger tires on a stock quad is it the size of the tires that takes away the power or the weight of the tires or both. I was thinking of putting a light pair of mud tires on the front something like 25-8-12 sur-tracks and 26-9-12
vampires. would that be a good combo, because i really do ride alot of deep, thicky, and sticky mud and i would hate to not have the tires turning all the time, also would the 24 front and 25 rear pass the tree test? also could anyone give me a list of places to where i could get it bored how big could i go on a big bore kit?what are the prices like?

Your quad would look kinda weird with different tire on the front than back and they wouldn't grip the same so it could cause more strain. Just my opinion.

does anyone know how much the 25-8-12 sur-tracks weigh? or how the perform with vamps? and does it cause strain on the drive train?
