Default 2001 foreman FWD ONLY

I have a 2001 foreman ES and sometimes it doesent shift all that great. Well not that i think that has anything to do with the problem. I was riding in my yard in 1st-2nd gear i heard a pop then just the Front wheels where spinning.

I have yet to tare into it yet, But i did put it up on a jack and the rear end seems to be intack ( I spin the rear tires and felt the joint threw the boot close to the motor) So it is something inside the motor. Has anyone ran into this type of problem before? I just hope it is not a high dollar fix. or else i will sitting out for a while...

sorry for types and miss spellings..

-Joe

thanks in advanced!!

Does this sound at all familiar??? http://forums.atvconnection.co...tid/8/threadid/524541

We have seen a few posts lately on stripped splines on the rear drive of the old 450's. I think these aren't very well lubed and they rust eventually and strip easily.

Maybe the old Foremans are beginning to show their age???

I briefly Checked it out, I just replaced me Rear Diff fluid.

Its think it is spinning in at the motor, or at least in the boot closest to the motor, There is movement in that boot when i spin the wheels, It might be a U joint in the boot. I was on highlifter's forums searching like crazy. and it seems to be a mix between U joint's yolks and Stripped axles.

Without any pressure on the rear axles the splines may grab enough to spin the shaft. if you can, pull the boot off by the engine and hold the shaft with something and then try spinning the wheels. i dont really know anything about the rear axle of on the foremans. Do they have a ring and pinion in the rear diff? when you turn the wheel does one turn the opposite direction?

I belive its a solid shaft, When i put it up on jack stands i left the front wheels on the ground and spun the rear tires and the front dident spin...

I will check everything and come back with an update!!

ok then you would have to try and hold the drive shaft and turn the wheels. it might grab just enough without the pressure on it to turn the shaft.

Most likely the splines from the yoke on the output....common problem on the older Foremans and doesnt seem to matter about age or maileage or abuse as these have been seem often since 1995.

The newer 500 Foremans however have a BIG problem with this as I have seen no less than 2 or 3 of these per month pop up in the past year.
Typical aft-1995 "Honda-Made in USA" quality at it's best.
