What is the smallest battery that will still power a winch. Crazy question but will the battery on the 400ex be enough to crank the winch ?

Thanks in advance for your replies !!

Yes the batt. can handle that, but why do you want to put a winch on a 400ex, is it even possible without fabircation.
If you want that quad to anywhere take it to your nearest dealer and trade it in for that 2000 scrambler 400 4x4.

I had a T1500 superwinch on my 300ex and it worked fine. I did have to fabricate a mount, or should I say have a mount fabricated, but it did the job. Scramdddy, maybe he wants the superior handling and jumping abilities of a 400ex and doesn't want to trade a perfectly good machine and take the loss.

Hey scramdaddy !
I have been doing a lot of soul searching about the 400ex lately. After riding nearly 12 hours between Friday and Today I must say I am totally impressed with my 400ex. I have ridden with a Rancher, Bayou 220, Kodiak 4x4, and a Raptor this weekend and despite the mud and ice from the melting snow I didnt get stuck once. The Kodiak & the Rancher both got stuck primarily due to their weight falling through the frozen layers of ice and mud. I have to admit the lack of reverse really is my biggest pet peave about the 400ex but in all honesty the raptor didnt put it in reverse once all day long. The Rancher got pretty buried and I have a new appreciation for winches b/c it just pulled that big ol' brute right out of a major mud hole. The front end on the rancher had a very similar set up when we compared them. I thought this might be a perfect replacement for reverse if I get stuck. I have pretty much decided I can't lose the money on a trade in too many people I know just get bent over on trades whether it be atv's or cars/trucks. I guess I am going to start working some overtime so I can purchase a Sportsman for hunting/camping etc... With addition of a winch, 22 inch rear (Bandits or Razrs) and a 14 tooth front sprocket the 400ex might just be what the doctor ordered... Sorry for the long post I get all this information in my brain and my wife just doesn't seem to be very interested in hearing it!!

Have a great week !!

First off shumdit he is a she and she is considering trading her 400ex for a scrambler, my post is only giving her an added incentive on why she should get the scrambler.

Hey guys!

Thought you all might be able to shed some more light on the Warn vs Superwinch debate. I read an interesting series of posts on the polaris forum. What is the good word !!

Thanks,
Triston

The dealer in my area has said the Warn winches are easier to get parts for than the superwinches.Must be the rebuildablity of the two I guess. Go with the Warn.

Basically a winch is a winch, if they are both rated to pull, let's say, 2000lbs, they are both going to pull that much. Warn is more popular and are easier to find so you're better off getting one from them.
