Default HELP, I need instructions to change counter sprocket on 1985 trx 125

Hello,

I need a little help. I have a neighbors trx 125 1985 that needs the sprocket changed. I have done a million of them but this is a totaly different set up. I would like a scan or pdf file, or some one who has done it to fill me in on what to do or not do. I'm sure I could figure it out, but it is not your average sprocket set up. Or a phone number and I would call you. Not looking for step by step over the phone but a quick over view. I would love a pdf file on this machine if some one has one. or even a scan of the pages that deal with this.

Thanks!

Geo

Default HELP, I need instructions to change counter sprocket on 1985 trx 125

I believe the chain guard cover has to be removed, the foot shifter, small gear reduction cover, recoil, neutral indicator ****. Remove the gears inside the small cover and keep them and spacers in order for reinstall. The complete left side engine cover will have to be removed. pull the recoil hub off and unbolt all left side engine cover bolts. ( probably should drain the oil first). The left engine side cover will come off withoutremoving the flywheel so no puller is needed. Somewhere in all this you will need a snap ring pliers to remove a snap ring to allow a gear to be removed from a shaft so access removal of one of the covers can be done. Pretty much a matter of removing the chain from there to slide the front sprocket assembly off. I have not found an aftermarket company that makes that gear. It is a strange one as it functions as part of the sub tranny gears. I know that to replace it can be spendy from Honda, somewhere around the $250 marker for front and rear sprocket. Hope this helps some.... been a while since I changed one. If you want to see how the gears go together or a parts reference, log onto ronnies microfische, Ron Ayers or the like. They changed the 125 in 1986 so the parts are different than an 85

Be sure to replace the oil seals on both sides of the new sprocket while you have it down.

Default Similar issue

I thought I had the same problem assuming the inside of the sprocket was stripped. Thanks to the help in this thread I got into it and found these beauties (see far left gear of first pic):

Second pic showing the other gear also missing a tooth:

Any help in identifying which these are as far as getting new parts would be appreciated. It is difficult to tell from online diagrams as they just show the gears off to the side instead of from location.

I tried to PM you Hondamechanic, but I got the error that your message box is full and that you need to empty them out first.
