Default UNI vs. K&N air filter

Is the K&N worth the extra dollars? I've always had good luck with K&N products but noticed a big price difference with the UNI.
Thanks!

The K&N is a lifetime filter, you can always clean and recharge it, whereas the UNI is not. If you are planning on keeping the machine it is going on, I would greatly recommend the K&N. In terms of power, I am not sure how good a UNI is, but I do know that there is a large difference in going from a stock filter to K&N.

Default UNI vs. K&N air filter

At one time I had K&N's with Outerewears on everything. Every time I would take one off, I would wipe the intake boot out with a white cloth. Know what...there was always a fine film of dirt inside the boot and the carb! I have since gone back to UNI foam! I value the longevity of my engines, above the modest increase in performance that I was getting with the K&N.

Hold a K&N up to the light. You can see light coming through from small holes all over the place! That wimped out cotton gause is like 1 mm think for heavens sake. Foam is an inch thick and has a thousand little crevices where the dirt will get trapped. K&N's are for the street.

Scheer-What is this you can't recharge a UNI thing???? You can wash a UNI and reoil it....for years on end!!!

I use a K&N in my atv and dont have any problems, I would run a uni in the desert or anything really dusty.

uni!!!! k&n allows too much fine dust to get past. and you dont gain much more in power!!

Default UNI vs. K&N air filter

I have seen Unis in the past that got a year or so old and started coming apart. The foam itself would start breaking apart and drop tiny chunks straight into the carb. They may use a different formula for the foam now so it might not be a current problem. I use K&N and keep it cleaned and oiled pretty often. I've never had a problem with dust making it past the filter. The key to either filter is doing the proper maintanence at the correct interval. Let either one get very dirty and you are just asking for dirt to get thru.

Both are substantially better than a paper filter.

Default UNI vs. K&N air filter

I have K&N filters in all of my vehicles and a couple of my 4 wheelers. I keep reading that the K&N lets in dust.... I certianly hope not. Regular maintenance and oiling of the filter is the key. If you are finding dust, you apparently aren't oiling the filter correctly.

My theory on the whole K&N/Uni debate is....... They wouldn't continue to Sell either if they didn't work. Go with what you feel comfortable with.
