350 Rancher pull start

350 Rancher pull start
ok so i have a 05 350 rancher
when doin a winter breakdown i noticed that the plate that covers the pull start is covered in what looks like oil.
i was looking on high lifter and i seen a leak shield. they said that when riding a honda that water will enter trhough the pull start and taver through the lower parts of the motor and then back out.
i was wondering if this is where the oil is comming from or could it be from where i ride wheelies its gas coveing the plate comming from the carb bowl over flow
anything will help
