i have spent time on both machines. the ex is quite slow in my opinion but it is fun to trail ride and put around on. plus it can be ridden anytime day or night or any season. the cr...the 98's frame wasnt that special and the power sucks compared to pre 96 cr's or yamahas. the cr would be fun if you ride on motocross tracks most of the time but i like to put around when im tired of "racing" and it is fun to cruise around in the dark which can t be done with the cr.
good luck!
ride on

If you like speed then get the cr,i loved mine(sold it to get 300ex).on a track is when the cr is most fun,but sometimes i get tired and like to wheelie and stuff,on a 300 u can do that sorta stuff with out fouling plugs.i never fouled a plug on my cr,i crashed on it tons of times, but its not fun unless u go down and learn from your mistakes. If you do get a bike,at first u will be way slower in corners and if u ride with friends who have quads, they will smoke u on flat turns with no banking, but they are fun on the track!.
your decision!

Depending on how much you weigh. If you are from 120lbs-180lbs I would take the CR125 in a heart beat. The 300EX is slow. That is a common fact. The CR125 is much faster than the 300EX. In fact. The CR125 is as fast as my Raptor. I've ridden the 98' CR's and I don't know what the guy in the earlier post was talking about. The 98 CR is the best made. I've been riding CRs since 82 and I can tell you that the 97-00 are the best CRs made. Take the 125. I would trade my wifes 99' 400EX for a CR125 if I weighed under 200lbs..
Since, I have a CR250 I don't need to trade for a 250.. ANYBODY WANT TO TRADE A 00' 400EX FOR A CR500? HAHA (yeah right)

Point is, 125 has more power. It is faster. It is funner. It wheelies 100times easier that the EX. It has better suspension. It weighs lighter 200lbs lighter. It is a 2-stroke.

Just my 2-cents

well one thing you have to think of is that you have a 98 300ex you could get 3500 for easy. In my area 2001 CR125's are only going for 3,999 and the CR is nice sometimes but in snow like i have here you couldnt ride the cr in real bad weather with mud you cant ride well atleast without breakin something and every year if you ride it hard your gonna need to rebuild the top end thats my 2 cents

I'm the manager of my local Honda Yamaha dealer. I get sent off to the north to test new equipment, bikes, and of course meetings. There is a new moto-ski from PC Racing. It attaches to your front forks keeping your frontend stable.
I've used one in a foot of snow. Give them a buzz @ 909-698-4962 or http://www.pcracingusa.com/moto_ski.htm
It retails @ $250

everybody is motocross knows that the past few years the yamaha has ruled the 125 class. the cr frame was changed and not too many positive things were said about them. just this year the cr 125 has gotten good reviews and there motor seems stronger. the cr was definatley the king of power in the 125 class through 96 then yamaha did something in 97!!! im not saying the early aluminum framed 125's are junk but not top of the class. i know people who still race(i quit a couple years ago) and they arent as fast or as comfortable on the new crs. im sure honda will be back to ruling the sport in due time!!
