Default 07 Rancher AT or 08 Rancher ?

Need some opinions. I'm upgrading from my Honda Recon (first ATV) and went to my local dealer today. They have a deal on the 07 Rancher, but the 08 is almost the same price. I admit I was paying more attention to the 07 at the time, but now I'm wondering if I missed something. The 07 has the switch to go from automatic to manual, but the 08 doesn't have that feature, right? (Might have just been the setup I was looking at.) The only other major differences in the machines are the 08 is a 420 (07 is 397) and is fuel injected, right?

What othe differences in the two should I be aware of. I'm familiar with ES and had it on my current ATV, so don't want to really get into the argument to buy/stay clear of that system. I haven't had any problem with it and happen to like it, but would be happy with foot shift as well if there were another reason to choose an ATV that didn't have ES. As far as riding style, mostly trails and some climbing. I like my Recon and would stay with it except I want a little bigger ATV with a little more power. Which one should I choose?

as far as I know the only difference between the 07 & 08 is the available colors. I think they dropped blue and picked up black for 08. I have a yellow 07 waiting at the dealer for me. The salesman said that they are exactly the same model. Also both are 420cc. Anybody correct me if I'm wrong.

Rancher 4X4's (07 and 08) are 420's, but the AT Model (discontinued for 08) is a 397

The Rancher 400AT got discontinued after only two years of production. That doesn't tell you something??? Several posts on the board right now, from folks who are having transmision problems.....take it for what it's worth!

The Rancher 420 is a superb little quad!!! Water cooled, fuel injected, crisp handling, good suspension.......

Go with the 2008 420,EFI,Manual shift. ITs a better machine IT also has a one year warranty standard.

I have the 420 ES 07 Ranher and can't say enough about it for the price. Dirt Wheels just rated this bike the best mid range 4x4 on the market. Not as nice of a ride on the rough stuff(no IRS) but has throttle response like no other of it's size..

just my .02c

I have the 07 420. Kick butt machine. I can go anywhere with it and can slide it around corners with ease. I backed up a steep trail in 4 wheel drive, in mud, with a KFX400 in tow. No problem. Also had it up in Colorado and spent a lot of time above 11,000ft. Never missed a beat. The EFI is awesome. No more cold starts like my old 300ex. You can't go wrong with it.
