Here is a way to keep your winch on the New Rubicon Higher and Dryer. If interested in seeing Photos of what we have done, check it out at http://communities.msn.com/atvingphotos/homepage

or click the ATV PHOTOS icon below.

Bottom of the site are the 4 photos showing what was done. Enjoy!!!

Alaskaweasel- Give us some info! What did you do to mount the winch-did you use an existing mount or make your own. How about a long post explaining it all.
Thanks

Seems like it is covering your radiator. What size tires do you run?

Shumdit: When buying a mounting kit we noticed that they hung it from the bottom of the bumper mounts. Some have it from the frame. Both put your winch in the way of larger tires and puts it in tons of water and mud 4 wheeling. However we took a plateand put like other mounts do from the bumper mounts, but then put the Winch on top between the grill and the Radiator Screen. There is only two modes done and that was to cut a little half moon off the radiator guard to fit the Right side of the winch( see the picture of it on RIGHT VIEW at our site) and the other mode was to bend slightly the grill away. That was done by bending the two mounting or support rods coming from around the Headlight grill area to the frame away from the grill slightly. Most like TexMud would think it would interfer with your air flow. NOT TRUE. Only about a 1/2 inch of the Plastic housing even touches the Radiator guard or is abouve it. Infact if you look at the picture good you will notice that the Grill on the quad is actually still higher than the winch. The air flow is not going to be an issue. The issue is the winch is higher, but not to high, out of the way of larger tires, and not going to sit in the mud everytime your stuck and need to use it.

Hope you all enjoy.
Scott

TexMud: We run 27"Vamps. They are on Douglas Alum. wheels. No lift kit as of yet.

Alaskaweasel-Do you have problems with the 27 inch tires rubbing on the Rubicon? If you have modified the Rubicon to prevent rubbing do you have the fender kit from Highlifter or did you use something else?

So it doesnt cover the radiator? Were your tires rubbing the winch when it was on upside down?

Shumdit: The Vamps do rub on the inside of the fender suports in the front. On the rear I believe you have to cut the fenders down so they don't rub on the rear. I know Highlifter makes a kit, but we haven't installed it yet.

TEXMud: The tires where only about 1" away from the Winch when mounted the way the OEM directions ask for it to be mounted. It reminded me of the problem the Yamaha Kodiak had with larger tires and winch mounts. If and when your quad was at certain angles (suspension) or hard turns (where the side walls give a little). It would hit your winch motor housing. If one adds 28"'s it would for sure increase yet again the chances of the winch being hit by the tire. Also to clear a point up, the winch is mounted between the grill and Radiator. It sits infront of the bottom of the Radiator but below the Grill air intake holes. It was put there more so to keep the winch out of mudd, water etc. Not so much for the tires rubbing, but it serves all the purposes without to much air being lost to the radiator if any.
