Default Valves

well i might be getting a 300ex but the motor has a tick and doesnt smoke or use oil. would this be the valves. how hard is it to adjust them

Buy as shop manual as this will give you step-by-step. Not hard. Manual will pay for itself many times over if you are even slightly mechanically inclined.

if it has a cam in it, you have to get the specs to that specific cam as far as the adjustments go

how much would it cost to take it somewhere to get it ajusted

if it ticks.. its most likely just the valves .. which necessarily isn't a bad thing, my valves tick .. its just how i've got them adjusted.. but it wouldn't hurt to just get a manual and do it yourself.. its cheaper and very easy

on the stock 400ex's the valves tick and its not a big deal.
