I own an 87' 250X and its basically stock except a durablue airfilter and dg racing pipe.My question is what is the difference between a 250x and a 300ex besides the electric start?I know the engine displacement is different but I have outran some 300ex's and can run side by side with those i cant outrun.I figured that since they must be bigger that they were faster but thats not the case.Anyway I am planning cosmetic mods at first cause I dont know what I want to do to it mechanically and read someone wanting to know if 400ex fenders would fit a 250x.Does anyone know if they would?I would like to run yellow fenders with a purple hood and gastank cover and headlight cover but cant find the headlight cover and all i find is a one-piece for the front.Does anyone know where I can find the pieces seperated?Any and all help is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time and responses.Hasta!!!

Sorry. Don't know about the 400EX plastic question. I don't know all of the differences between the 250X and 300EX. I don't think there are very man though. I believe that there are 3 main differences. Here are the 3 that I know of:

1. Electric starter vs. kickstarter
2. 300EX has slightly bigger bore
3. 250X has higher compression (I think)

Basically everything else should be compatible between the two machines. Hope I helped.

different cam chain length

different black box.....300ex doesn't rev so high

7700 compared to 8500rpm in a x (i think....could be wrong)

x is less horse power.....yet goes just as well!

diff bore and strock

diff age.....very important......things don't last forever

I dont know about the 400ex plastic. I dont think it would fit a 400ex is bigger than a 250x. U could rig it but i dont recomend that.
THe 300ex has the same bore as a 250 but the 300ex stroke is longer i dont know by how much. THey have different models of carbs but i think the smae size. THere are alot of smaller things.

I wish I could find a pic on here of a 250x with the 400ex plastic to see how good it does fit. Also I cant find the headlight plastic anywhere.I broke mine in a wreck and now I run 2 mustang foglights mounted on a bracket I made. They look like the lights on a 400ex so im sure I could make them fit in those fenders. They are a lil out of place right now cause there is no plastic around them and my bracket is visible but they are still kind of cool looking.I have cut my factory front fenders into racing fenders and built my own custom front bumper.Does anyone know about how much powdercoating hubs and a-arms costs? I had thought about chroming my frame but I heard it weakens it during the process.Anyone know any truth to this.If I can ever get all my eggs in one basket I believe that my quad will look pretty good.I have it pictured in my mind so I think im on the right track.Anyway, sorry about my rant.Hasta.

Will a stock 400ex pipe fit without modifications? My pipe is really loud and I had gotten rid of my stock pipe and was wanting to maybe run something a lil quieter.I like the sound of my pipe but its kind of hard to ride at night when everyones trying to sleep.Does the stock 400 pipe give any boost like the aftermarket pipes do?And is it as quiet as on a 400 or is it a lil louder? Thanks.

Youve got a point about the headpipe. If the muffler itself wouldnt fit I could always make a mount for it to fit my aftermarket headpipe,if I go that route that is.I am a machinest so making things fit isnt that hard of a job, lol.I am trying to fix it so I can go in reverse without having to push that blasted button down all the time.I dont really wanna cut and tie off my cable so im gonna make some sort of spacer instead.Anyway im off to work so ill catch all yall l8ers.Hasta!!
