i hate how honda is starting to get recognized as slow and underpowered. Honda may not be the most powerful of the fleet as far as utilites go but they sure are know for reliability. Im glad tests like these prove honda is still making fast machines.

LOL. Like this ONE. Check all the other new shootouts. It comes in second to last. Dirt Wheels should carry no weight on anyone opinion. shootouts in this mag are a joke. ya they are all nice quads, but i guarantee it could not out accelerate the ktm or polaris 450s or prob suzuki either, the yfz or maybe DS. It is nice. all the 450s are but DW is a joke!!!

 

I just read this shootout finally. It says it was yammy, honda, then everyone else tied for third besides the kawi was last. lol. How can four be dead even? ATV sport said it was ktm then polaris behind by .1 seconds. Look how exact they were. I think with just that gives atv sport more credibility! just my opinion though.

 

atvsport and credibility? that doesnt even go on the same page much less the same sentence. atvsport used to be good in the 90's but since they reformed into this load of crap and hype- they suck. go get one from when they were good and you will see a huge difference: thorough articles with gear ratios, topspeed, etc. what they are now is not even a shadow of what they used to be. all the mags have their favorites. editorial comments on honda in atvsport are mostly negative...

in 2006, the honda was rated to have th highest HP over suz and yam. the LTR was total crap until they put the cherry bomb on it. i think the HP chart is a little off as it doesnt line up with what was posted earlier this month. KTMs make good power but i dont think they come as corked up as the YFZ, TRX.

in one respect, it is the opinion of magazines. the true test is experience. go ride them, line up against them. i wont argue with KTMs and CAN-AMs being powerful in stock trim, but the rest have failed to leave me with a "wow factor." Ive seen many get their @sses handed to them by TRXs and especially YFZs.

On either of these you can have it at 50hp in no time and not allot of dough spent. on the trx the hRC kit gives it a verifiable 30+% HP increase which if it is stock at 42-44 then its easily 54 after HRC (on the 06 and up models).

i have to put this here b.c, for one im not talking about majorly modding anything (with NOS like i saw in another sig) - just simple factory endorsed 'bolts ons' like the cherry bomb (excluding hrc cam which is covered under warranty if the dealer does it) and two, if what you are comparing it is in terms of 'uncorked' power, then uncork the others to equal the playing field... its just more amazing that in top speed the TRX and YFZ are still faster to the radar gun than the newcomers with all the great advancements. Of which, i think the one you will see on the YFZ and TRX next yr wil be EFI...

Ktms, no not as corked. The polaris yes, and both VERY lean stock to pass emissions. All I am sayin is dirt wheels is full of it. Most other mags as well. Its all money with them. I know that ktm and polaris both are faster accelerating than yammy and honda. Prob not top end, especially since polaris runs 18s. And yes efi is nice BUT tey are not as much of an advantage in preformace as everyone thinks IMO. More efficient yes, performance, could be legitimate arguments there. All 450s are good IMO, but i just get sick of yamaha winning every shootout in DW. They are biased, it is kinda un deniable.

I consider all utilities to be an unfortunate necessity when the rocks get to big, or the streams and snow get to deep. I grew up thinking of utilities as "redneck" machines for potbellied guys who ride with a beer in one hand....and I will absolutely never be able to shake that image in my mind!!!! Thus, I chose the least offensive and most sporty utility I could find....

its the kind of stuff like these mags that make me mad.......



i believe DW over ATVS simply because ATVS favors KTM what is up with KTM i dont get it. i garauntee that if you put that extra 2000.00 to buy a KTM over a HONDA into modding a honda then that KTM will stand no chance whatso ever.......
honda also features the "uni-cam" design which makes it rev faster then any other 450s......and the yamaha having 5-valves no wonder these were the fastest....they have unique motors unlike the others with sohc and dohc motors..... EFI from what i have seen only robs power....the kawi was the power monster on 2wheels but is the slowest on 4. and it just so happens the only difference in the 2 is efi....the ltr needed alot of upgrades to run with the pack on both 2 and 4 wheels.
of course ktm makes the race ready quad....but for 2000 you can make any thing race-ready with your choice of aftermarket not what the factory choose for you. 2 grand im
sure you can get more then a set of ohlins, razrs. and a freer flowing exhuast...
AND NOTHING BEATS HONDA RELIABILITY!!!!!!!!!!
