Ive been reading that it inproves throttle response. The cold blooded thing is solved by a 42 pilot jet.It will start right up.

why are you so worried about losing bottom? when do you actually lug that low in 1st? because that's the only place you will feel a reduction in pulling power- 1st gear @ 3000 ish rpm.

All the other gears will just make you thinkg you are running a gear higher than you really are because you are going faster in the same gear than you normally would.

Gearing taller would probably be better for a rolling start drag since you dont have to deal with that super low rpm 1st gear bog.

And gearing down to launch in 2nd seems to me like just throwing out your 1st gear by making it unusable and throwing out your 5th gear because that now only goes as fast as 4th.

As far as I've seen this one of the most common mods done to the 400ex. Everyone I know that has one has done this. I would imagine you could just put it back if you don't like it. Here is a pic of one way to do it. A durable material is held in place over the hole with a hose clamp.

don't you need to get a 42 pilot when you do this mod?
