Default General Maintaince 400ex

I bought and 02 400ex and was just wondering what things I can do, or have a dealer do, to keep it running good and not have any major problems later on. I change the oil myself and I had the dealer tighten the chain but I really dont know what to do after that. Any suggestions, what do you do?

The owners manual will spell out what and how to do most things, chain adjustment, air filter cleaning, and so on. Its also a good idea to buy a service manual if youre doing your own work. It has much better details about what to do.

Don't neglect valve adjustments! If it is new to you, you don't know what the previous owner did, so I would adjust them initially, then every 100 hours after that. http://www.atvriders.com/artic...veadjustment400ex.html

Oil/filter changes, air cleaner, keep the chain lubed and adjusted....it's pretty simple! http://www.atvriders.com/articles/oilchange400ex.html

Good reads on oil. I would recommend an ester synthetic:
