OK, stupid question, which way is your 400 ex's gas valve for ON, OFF, and RESERVE ??????? Mine didn't seem to line up with the markings on the side panel. I recently tore my quad apart to rebuild carb, rejet and just do a little learning. I'm a good mechanic but new to quads. My side panel says OFF on the left, FUEL on top, and RESERVE on the right. BUT, I have the valve off of the tank in my hands and it's labeled, ON= straight up, OFF=to the right, ans RESERVE=down. I know I can reposition the ****, but it never corresponds to my side panels. LOL!!! I know it doesn't matter but wondered if maybe I had a generic valve or what? THX...

not 100% sure but my brothers 400ex is gas is on when the *** is down off is turned to the left and reserve is up and nothing to the right

 

thx Matt, that makes sense, my **** can be put on so it works that way, it's just labeled different on the side panel. Maybe my side panels are generic ????????

 

If you take off that little side plastic all the markings are on the petcock. Mine dont line up either, so I just turn it till it stops near the function I want to use. As far as I know the polastic **** only fits the petcock one way, I'm on my third plastic ****, used blue loctite on the screw this time, shouldnt vibrate out again!

 

Well, my petcock is off (cleaning gas tank). The **** will fit four ways on the square shaft. The markins on the petcock just aren't the same as what's on the body panels. I guess it's not just mine. It did cause me some confusion as I don't have an owners manual and I was not turning my gas off when I thought I was. lol
