Default Oil question

Good article. Don't put the filter in backward:

Did you drain both the tank and the crankcase??? (Newbs often forget the crankcase!)

Here is what I do: Refill the tank full, which takes about 1.8 quarts. Start the engine for several minutes, and that will pump oil back into the crankcase, dry oil filter, and oil cooler. Stop the engine and check the oil level. Mine usually drops to the bottom of the dipstick, and I top it up to the top. Take it for a real ride, the recheck the oil level after and top up if necessary.

Do not overfill this machine! The pressure will blow the lines right off the tank. Also, when it sits, the oil level will be totally bogus until you take it for a short ride and then check it. (Usually just warming up the engine like the owner's manual says, doesn't result in an accurate oil level for me...I have to ride it around the block and run through the gears.)
