Anybody ever had to remove one of these before? I'm told that all you have to do is unbolt the diff mounting bolts and slide it forward, the driveshaft will come right out. I bought a used one from a buddy, splines look great. Anybody got any tips of the trade that's had to do this before? Also, what else should I be checking out while I'm in there?

Nope, it's the actual little driveshaft from the motor to the front differential, only about 8 inches long.

Remove the black front fender on that side and the inner fender so its easier to get at. Remove the bolts that hold the front diff to the frame, and remove the little bracket on the top (it'll give you an extra llittle room). When removing the shaft, I think its easier to remove it from the motor first then the differential. Cant remember for sure its been a few years since I had it apart to install my Warn 424. IF you go to the WARN site you may be able to download the installation manual for the 424 which is Exactly what you are doing.

Couldn't find the manual anywhere on WARN's site, but it should be easy enough. Thanks for your help! By the way, out of curiousity, why did you install a 424 on your 450? It wasn't equipped with TraxLok?

Mine is a 1998, trax lok wasnt available that year (I think 2001 was the first year for it on the 450)

I may eventually install a 424 on mine, I've been doing a little research and the replacement TraxLok parts are expensive if they ever go out! Mine's still good, but if that electromagnetic clutch ever fails, Warn makes a 424 for my model.

Yeah, I'm not much of one for electro anything as bikes are used in rough enviroments, and such enviroments dont usually mix so well with electronics.

If the cable happens to snap on the 424 it will go back to 4wd as you have to pull it out to engage 2wd. When I installed mine I installed short pieces of black rubber hose over the cable where it rubbed anything to prevent chafing of the cable.
