Highlifter sells a high performance kit for the Rancher for $355. It includes a Supertrapp ISD2 pipe, a rejetting kit, and a K&N filter. I bought the same items seperately from Rocky Mountain ATV for about $285. It is hard to estimate performance gains without access to a dynamometer, but it is very noticable, especially in the low end and midrange. My guess is about a 15% improvement and a sweeter exhaust note.

rl4wheeler---Was the kit pretty easy to install? How long did it take? How were the instructions? I am getting ready to order this kit and I'm very interested in your response. Thanks

I just got the performance kit also. Man what a difference. With the stock tires and wheels, I can wheelie in 1st and 2nd without any pulling up or moving my body. Just punch the gas and the front end pops right up. With the IDS you will have to rejet since you are increasing flow. The kit comes with things such as what jets to use with the entire kit installed.

Texmud,

I have a couple of questions about the performance kit from highlifter.

1. How long did it take you to install everything?
2. Where the instructions from high lifter clear & explained what needed to be done?
3. Did you get the NGK racing spark plug? Does this cause your quad to run hotter?

thanks

snowshark,

1. It took overall maybe 3 hours. (I had never opened a carb before this!)
2. Yes and no. One thing to note is there is a gasket between your headpipe and exhaust that you will need to order a new one from Honda. I did not know this, but luckily my dealer had one on hand. Since it is a kit made up of different companies stuff, the instructions were mixed. The SuperTrapp instructions were straight foward....heck its just a muffler. The K&N is easy and so i sthe outerwears. The plug...lefty loosy, righty tighty. The jet kit is the only complicated thing. Dynojet has terrible instructions. I mainly used my Honda service manual for changing the jets. The actual changing of the jets is very easy. Getting to them is the tough part. Highlifter includes tuning instructions and they also tell you where to start, as far as main jet size, needle clip, and mixture screw turns. This is VERY helpful.
3. Yes I did get the NGK racing spark plugI can not tell that the quad runs hotter.

Overall the kit is well worth it. Tuning the carb is the toughest part.

Texmud,

thanks, I would have missed the exhaust gasket part.

Good info, time to call high lifter, looks like I will have a project for the weekend.

Be sure to get some exhaust gasket(high temperature) grease. Hondabond HT is what I used.
