What is a good oil to use
During break-in (10-20 hours), run a petroleum based oil (no synthetic or even blends). I use Maxima Premium for break-in. Honda GN4 is another choice. After break-in, I highly suggest a synthetic!
Oil threads always turn into pissing matches!!!
If you pick a motorcycle specific oil that is API SG/JASO MA, you won't go wrong. (The SG insures that it has adequate levels of additives like ZDDP, and the MA insures that it doesn't contain high levels of friction modifiers that will make your clutch slip.) Beyond that, the synthetics are superior to petroleum oils, and the ester synthetics are superior to the other two type of synthetics.
In the past I ran Maxima Extra, but have now switched to Redline MC (it is JASO MB, yet still safe for wet clutches...it's a long story...). Both are ester synthetic and very expensive, and I am seeing a performance increase running Redline!
If full ester synthetic is to expensive and you want a bargain priced oil, Maxima Premium a basic petroleum oil. Better yet Maxima Blend, which is a pertroleum/ester blend, yet not terribly expensive. Maxima has the best additive package in the business! Honda HP4 (a blend with a fair amount of ester) if you can't find Maxima.
Your 700 has a little slipper piston, so it will need frequent oil changes just like your 450R!

I am wondering what would be a good oil to use in my 700xx.
I am just doing my first oil change and wondering which oil I should buy?
Thanks</end quote></div>
Open your seat.
Look under it.
The owners manual should be in a littl plastic bag.
Open the bag.
Read the manual.
Change your oil.

Just because I'm not "OG" doesn't mean a stupid question isn't stupid. Stop wasting people's time and read your owners manual. **** he just paid almost 8 grand for a 4 wheeler. I know I did and I read mine.
