is there a post around here that has a list of frequently and commonly done modifications to a 400ex? ive got an 03 with a pipe k&n filter and a drilled air box and id like to do more. perhaps change the sprocket to help her accelerate more and maybe even do a carb swap but ive got no ide where to find any of this stuff, i tried ebay for a carb but came up empty. but a sprocket change is in the near future also i read somewhere something about a control box of sorts that advances my timing. i need to get an edge on my buddy and hsi pitbike, so far from a dig i win because of obvious tractio issues but from a roll were dead even and i dont like that. lol

 

Eldebrock makes carbs for a 400ex. I have heard they are hard to set up but I am not sure.

 

ive herd the 450r carb will fit and it will give a grate hp increase...

 

thanks for the info, ive actually managed to find some edelbrock carbs but theyre ridiculously expensive. 400 bucks or so off ebay. how much should i expect to pay for a 450r carb? also whats involved in setting up the 450r carb fro my 400 ex? do i need to change jets around on it and is there any tuning that needs to be done?

 

u will prolly need the airbox from the 450r but idk about jets i wanna put the 450r carb on mine aswell they are only like $200-$250 on ebay... i think it is well worth it tho..

 

that beats the price of the edelbrock carbs. stupid things arent cheap to mod, its like modding a car, haha. ill dig around for a carb on ebay and see what i find. thanks

 

yea im wanting to get one too and also some 450r front shocks and mabe a 416cc bore kit then i will mabe hand with the 450r... lol!!

I haven't heard anything good about edelbrock carbs (for quads). And the 450 carbs are tricky to jet on a 400. I don't think you need a bigger carb until you get to a 440 big bore.
