Gee... thanks for all the help on my question!!!

i didn't post "scrambler 500 4x4 vs. 400ex" for a bunch of babies to argue over which brand is better. I posted cause i wanted some honest replies and i got about 4 out of 20. The rest of them were just polaris and honda owners going at it about who makes the best. That had nothing to do w/ my post! I just wish that the people that didn't have anything good to say would just keep there mouth shut and not post.( back to what i posted). My friend has a 2000 400ex and that thing will fly. He has a K&N air filter and a fmf pipe on it. It will run about 70. I want a Scrambler 500 4x4 b/c i like automatics cause i do a lot of trail riding and go through lots of mud. I just wanted to know how much difference in speed there was. I know the 400ex has a better reputation and a lot better in sport riding, but they don't make it in a 4x4. That's too bad. Once again i would like to know what the 2 bikes run top end.
p.s.- i'm not sure but by reading the articles on the new Scrambler 500 2wd. It will beat a 400ex in speed. All the articles i read about the ex says the only thing it lacks is power! Just thought i would mention that.
By the way, i am a Polarid(haha, like the spelling dude!)owner myself. I posted that same thing in both polaris and honda forums just to c what each had to say. Believe it or not most of the polaris people said that the 400ex would be 500 4x4 in just about everything but mud!

Like I said before, they both have about the same topend speed, but when it comes to tight woods, the EX will eat you alive do to its handling and weight. As far as jumping, the EX would be a better choice, again, due to its weight. If you are more of a mudder, the Polaris is the way to go, due, of course, to the 4 wheel drive, bigger displacement, and higher ground clearance.

Your not the only one, if you or anyone else remembers my comparison topic titled RAPTOR vs. SCRAMBLER 400. There was about 132 posts and 1500 views between the yamaha and polaris forum, about 5 posts were focused to the topic the other 127 were either people going back and forth or guys telling me I'm ignorant for putting raptor and scrambler in the same sentance.

Daddy,
I've been riding my 2000 scram 400 2x4 w/ mods of ported, piped, clutched, vforce delta'ed & wisco'ed for a year and half now. Just bought a 2000 DS650 w/ mods of k&n power kit, had it for about 8 weeks. I like the pull of the big bore 4 stroker & winning against my other buddies 400ex's and a rapter, but I rather ride my old friend the 400. None of my friends like the ride of my scram, they say it's to tippy and won't slide the there ex's. I don't have this issue, I have learned to control it well enough to make them all play chase thou the woods. And since I heard Polaris has disco'ed the 2 stroke 400, I'll just hang onto mine.

Top speed is about equal...give a bit to the 400ex. Tight trails are good on both but the 400ex is more nimble. Steep, slippery hills... Scrambler.
The Scramblers are tons (no jokes now!) of fun but not for track racing and barreling into corners. Get em muddy and they are really amazing!
My opinion only.

I've had my 400ex for about a month now, and I would go with the Polaris if you see a lot of snow and mud. Hands down the Polaris is better in mud and snow, and I would also say it is better at hill climbing also.
For real fast trail riding, no doubt, get the EX, it screams in tight woods action. As for climbing very big hills, I personally don't care for the EX. It seems to me that the front end is way to light and comes up on you. I have always had 2 stroke bikes, and didn't have that problem, maybe I am still adjusting to the EX. Don't get me wrong, the EX will climb it's fair share of hills, it is just not my pick for the real steep ones. But over all I love the EX for what I bought it for. If I was buying an EX to climb steep hills, I would remove the seat and mount it on the front bumper. LOL
As far as drag racing, to me that is worthless. How often do you do it? I would say hardly ever. Most people spend their time on trails, not on a blacktop road.

yea u are right but if the 400ex would be 4x4 they would probably be the same. i have a 400ex souped up to all it can be and it runs 78 my friend has a scrambler500 4wd and it will run about 62 or 63 and is great in the mud but my ex does purty dang good because the tires will spin so fast.
