Hi

Went out on a ride with my friend tonight, we just got bout 6 inches of snow over the weekend. I was following him up this hill and I could not make it. So then I put it in low and still counldnt make it, at this point in time I was gettin worried my fried said that my front wheels were not spinning looked down and only my two back tires were spinning so I took her home since this is my 1st quad and took a look at the manual page 159 it said too check the driveshaft boots so I did and the front right boot (on the drivetain) is leaking oil and looks too be broken so I called the honda dealer and he said he never heard of this and to bring it over he said it "should" be covered under warranty I am not ruff on this thing at all and have no idea how this could of happen to it I am a big person 300 pounds 6 feet seven inches but I hope that wasn't the cause of this. This is my 1st real concern on this machine it has 675 miles and bout 100 hours on it. Has anyone ever heard of this? and what did u do too fix it if anything?

thx

Many things could cause the boot to tear. Sticks are the most common. I have heard of sluch freezing around it and then tearing it. I dont know much about this being in Texas though. Is it the rubber boot that actually tore?

Hi

No not the rubber but the whole boot itself looks like it torn off of the main drive shaft and oil is leaking out. It could frozen over but it hasn't been below 15 degrees here. I just hope like the guy said it will be covered under the warrantee

When looking at the quad from the front. Which boot are you talking about. At the top of the drive shaft near the differential, or on the other end near the tires?

Tex, did'nt you you have a drive shaft to come loose from the diff, when you first got your Rubicon, or was it somebody else?

You have the same problem I had. I noticed it after one of my first rides. That is called the inbound joint. It is held into the differential by a small "stopper ring". Basically this joint is held together by pressure. When you remove the, wheel, a-arms, hub, etc the inbound joint is actually removed with a "tug". This of course would be done when removing it for service. To put it back together you just push until it clicks into place. Not sure how many miles you rode on it like that, but it should not of caused any damage. Be sure to change the diff oil in case it got contaminated. I am not sure why this happened. I have not had one problem since I fixed this. I do periodically check BOTH of my quads for this just to be sure.

Keep us informed, looking to buy a Ruby, and need to know all the stuff, good and bad. With all the snow and ice my 450-s endures, it is a wonder the boots aren't shredded on a regular basis. The only one I ever holed was in Arizona, and it must of been a piece of Ironwood.
