Guys I've ridden several 400ex's mine feels just as strong actually it IS stronger than my friends 04.
I borrowed a magellan 210 handheld gps from a friend at work. I got my 400ex out on the road and wound it up to what I felt was topped out without making the engine feel like it was going to blow and looked down and I was doing 50-52ish....
made sure I was in 5th gear and hit the trottle again she feels awful spooled up at 50 on the pavement....
maybe they have a lot more but on the flat pavement with nothing to bog the engine any 50 made it seem wound up pretty good thats all i wanted to hold it down to.
anyway it's a fast lil bike but people on here say 65-70....they have changed spockets or something if they get that outta them.
we both took turns on his 04 his ran 48-52 also and felt wound out.....both are bone stock down to the tires.
it has tons more left just feels like it needs 2 more additional gears!!!
*do I think it had 55mph in it? yes...but just saying at 52 it felt like I was pushing it and it was wound out pretty much.....and I take care of my stuff so thats all I pushed it but I didn't see it hitting 65mph or over...not with the stock gearing noway.
your thoughts.??

i agree with Matt1980. i just sold my 300ex and it topped out around 50-55. and my 400ex's 2nd gear gear goes as fast as my old 300ex's third gear went. i do know the newer 400ex's (i wana say 05 and up) have had their gearing changed slightly making them have more acceleration and lower top speeds. Honda added one more tooth to the rear sprocket or front (cant remeber). Im thinking they didnt want their 400's keepin up close with their 450's.

how do you make trx 90 go 70?</end quote></div>
Well, the statement is more rhetorical than literal....but start putting taller and taller gearing on a machine and you will gain more and more top end.....but at the expense of low end power of course!
Precisely why top speed alone doesn't mean jack!

I have one tooth smaller than stock on the countershaft, and mine will do 59. Stock should be over 60. Im not sure if Ive ever hit the rev limiter in top gear...I think it runs out of power, before revs.
Are you sure everything is bone stock? The tooth count is correct on the sprockets? Air filters are clean? Tire diameters are the same, and inflated a bit more than stock? Usually the harder the tires, the bigger in diameter they get, and that helps top end.

I have a 300ex and it will go about 55-60. my friend has a 400ex and it tops out at around 75mph believe what you want but the only thing that it has is a rev box. we clocked the 400ex with a car and that is what it said. You my friend have a slow 400ex or u don't know what pushing your 4-wheeler is.
