I got a Honda trx 500 with the hondamatic trans. The oil pumb blew apart in the motor and I took the motor out and rebuild it. I put it back in and now the gear display blinks 2 dashes and underneath the dashes it is blinking d1 d2 and esp. It will not select any gear or reset itself. If I hold down the up and down arrows and turn the key on it blinks neutral up top and then d1 (or whatever mode it is in) underneath. It blinks for a few seconds then clicks back to what it was doing before. All the connections are good. I dont know what is going on, any help would be great.

 

Did you count the number of flashes ..?..
What happened to the oil pump and the engine..?..
What do you mean it won't select any gear..?.. What happens when you start the bike and put it into "D" , the bike should drive but go into failsafe mode..

 

The bearing for end of the starter let go and somehow got into the oilpump and blew it apart. There are 2 dashes that continously flash at the same speed. when you move the selector to d the screen keeps flashing the 2 dashes and d1 d2 and esp. it does not change. The wheels will turn if you rev the engine but it acts like there is a lot of resistance and it lugs the motor down.

 

There should be a break in the flashes , you will have to count them ..

The TRX500FG/FA uses a high pressure oil pump that feeds the Hondamatic pump (transmission) if any metal filings in the Hondamatic unit isn't good .. Was there a new Hondamatic unit installed when the engine was re-built..?

 

There is no break in the flashes- It shows - - two dashes like that that keep blinking no matter what gear you put it in. I dont know if I have to reset something or what.

No the Hondamatic unit was not replaced. How do i know if it is any good?

 

If there is no break that you can see then it could be code #1 which is pulse generator but the flash should be about .5 seconds on and 2 seconds off ..

Look at the flash chart and check again..

 

I have no pauses in the flashes and the screen does not display a D like the picture. It looks like this -- the 2 dashes on top and the rest down bottom.
D1 Everything is blinking at a constant speed with no
D2 pauses at all. I thank you for all the help
