Default 1986 Fourtrax 350 4x4 Tune-Up

First, I want to say Hello! to all. This is my first post here and I'm glad I found what appears to be a really great ATV forum

I just purchased a used '86 350 Fourtrax 4x4. It is in really good shape and runs well. It does need some TLC and I'm pretty sure could use a tune-up. I have been looking online but have yet to find what all this machine requires for a tune-up. I have not even found a repair manual for it yet. Can anyone help me, either with the info or a source for a repair manual that would have the info? As a minimum I could use what oil is required where, and what type of additive should be used with what I have read is a limited slip front diff. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Glenn

Check bikebandit.com for the shcematics of your bike, it usually helps me fix anything.

Full tune up, air filter, clean out the carb, rejet the carb,
Replace the exhaust if they make it (im sure its just a 350X engine in there so Im sure there are TONS of mods)

Or clean out and repack the exhaust, oil change

maybe even run some Sea Foam thru it

oil filter too

spark plug

Fuel filter if you have one

Check for play in your steering, Replace tie rod ends / bushings as needed
Grease everything that looks like it moves, Its a honda, so Im betting it has NO grease fittings, so try and get some kind of lube in there

you probably could use a full set of shocks, not sure whats available tho
im sure somthing from a newer machine would fit, give you a better ride, more travel

Thanks much kukerdan, that is the kind of info I was looking for. This is my first ATV (but not my first motorized toy) and I just needed to know which direction to start in.

wow. your in the exact same position as me. I just purchased the exact same fourwheeler used about a week ago, and this is my second day on the forum. talk about a coincidence. I thought the same about mine too, so I have my fourwheeler in the shop for a tuneup also. I should get it back this week. this is my first atv also. I'm not making any of this up. I promise.

Hey mudNgun, that is a coincidence! I took mine on a good test ride when I was buying it, but haven't had a chance to go ride it since. I think it'll be a lot of fun for us, hope you enjoy yours!

I'm sure I will. what type of riding are you looking to do? I'll probably be mudding, and a little bit of trail riding.

Well now, this is my first day on the forum and I just happened to buy a 1986 Honda 350 fourtrax as well....(do these things ever die????)

I've had it for a few days and the issue I have is the neutral light stays on at all times and the fan doesn't work. After a little investigation , I found the wires going to the oil sensor, the neutral switch and

the reverse switch had been disconnected and jumped out (on the right side, just under the seat). Alas, I didn't notice this until after the purchase, so I'm looking for a diagram to put it right.

great machine though

I did a little investigation on the weekend and couldn't go any further without a diagram. The machine is up north...

By the looks of the info above I should be able to check for continuity to ground at the neutral sensor, when the trans is in neutral, and continuity to ground at the reverse sensor when the trans is in reverse??? That should be easy enough, but I don't see what the rectifier has to do with any of this? Are these "sensors" just "switches"? Do the switches ever stick open?

Thanks
