Picked up a free frame. Guy says it's a 300ex frame. Can't find a vin on it anywhere. How interchangeable are the parts from year to year and where is the vin? And I assume a 300ex frame is the same thing as a trx300?

 

all years are interchangeable, the vin is on the front of the frame between a arms and handle bar,

 

are the plastics all interchangable between years?? example: new trx plastics on 99 300 ex?

 

So what year is the first year?

Yes and no.

All the old-school plastic is interchangable, as is the aftermarket stuff.
But the newest Honda plastics... Gen II? R-style?... it's not.
The frame is still the same, just the plastic mounts are different.
So fab the mounts and it's ALL interchangeable.
