Today i was riding my honda recon 250 for like 20-30 minutes, nothing crazy just goin through fields. anyway, on my way back home the i was stopping the ATV then the engine died, I got it to start again after a minute and rode it about 100 feet back to my house then it died again in my driveway. If i let the engine sit for a little it will sart and idle, but it will die if i let it idle or start giving it gas and it does not sound right. i looked at it and read through the repair manual... I think from what it seems like that I am having carb issues, maybe not getting enough fuel. please please please help!!!

This is the exact thing that happened to my wife - everytime it would start dying on her she would choke it a little and get it going before it died. I got on it and it happened to me also. I am wondering if it was something in the jets. I took it out and road it as fast as i could and it seemed to fix it - i had to choke it once at about 30 miles an hour and then it was fine for the next three hours.

 

I had the same thing happen to my sportsman 500. I cleaned the air filter very good and cleaned the carb. Runs like a champ now.

i think that does help, it is most likely carb issues, i think the best thing I can do is take apart the carb and clean it/inspect for breaks. it seams like the more i let it sit the longer it runs. thanks

 

Sounds like you sucked a little dirt into the carb and its fooling with one of your jets. Take it apart for a good cleaning, if your not familiar with that, have a professional clean it for you.

Could also be water in the gas (condensation, bad gas etc). Pour about 100mls of gas line antifreeze into the tank, shake it to mix it, then start the bike and idle it for awhile, then take the bike for a run to see if it works out the hesitation.

 

I completely disasembled the carb today and blew it ouut with carb cleaner, it seemed fine, but now that you said that I did notice some dirt in the bowl of the carb!! cleaned it all out, tommorow the carb hopefully goes back on. Ill let you guys know how it worked!!

also Im not allowed to ride for 4 days while my parents are gone, ad im gonna be good and listen, but that means I have 4 days to do the ultimate tune-up. I alreadypainted the racks and brushguard and cleaned the carb, next Im gonna clean the whole intake system and bleed the brakes, any other suggestions???
