See your owner's manual for a temperature range chart.

I have a 500 Foreman as well. I use Honda oil GN4 10W-40. Use an oil that meets SE,SF or SG, SL. You shouldn't use a synthetic or an automotive type oil as it could effect the clutch. I have an older Foreman that I run Castrol GTX motorcycle oil in that meets SE,SF and SG,SL. Never had any problems and as soon as the warranty is up on my 500 I'll be switching to Castrol. It shouldn't use any coolant on the 500 their air and oil cooled.

I've been running Honda Oil since day one in my Foreman 450, it costs a little more but its not changed that often (once or twice a year) and it doesnt take that much oil. So far I've been running 10 years trouble free so it must be decent oil.

True, you should not use any automotive oil because of friction modifiers, but more bacause since 1993 they have had a downgrade in their anti-wear additive packages. Read this.... <a target=_blank class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htm

As for synthetics effecting wet clutch operation, that is pure myth!!! I have run a vairety of high end cutting edge technology synthetics in all my bikes and quads for the last dozen years, and there is no adverse effect of any kind on a wet clutch. In fact, your transmission will probably shift easier with a synthetic than with dead dinosaur oil. More good reading.... http://www.sportrider.com/tech/146_0308_oil/index.html
