Hi this is my first post here. I have a 2000 400ex that i bored over last year made it a 426. It has been jeting and has the stock pipe on it right now. I also have a 01 300ex thats stock..
Now heres the fun question i have for ever one here. I plan on useing one of these for deer hunting this winter... Im not sure which one i should use I dont know how hard they will be to start in 10 degree weather?? I used my 400ex one year for hunting befor i bored it it done fine far has starting but with the bore done to it now will it be harder to start? Is there any thing i can do to help it start in cold weather?
My plane was to but a new utility the summer but some things came up so thats out for right now...
Or should i use the 300ex?

Well, as you know, neither is really good for what your are doing..
I mean, dragging the deer out that is.
If you dont think the 300 can handle the hills, than spend 20$ and get a 12 Tooth front sprocket,
will make your gearing lower so it will have more power and accel and torque
what you need is a ROKON
look it up

Be sure to run an oil in cold weather that is appropriate for that temp...see your owner's manual. The thinner oil will make a cold start easier, and I would recommend one of the ester synthetics (Redline, Maxima, Motul, Klotz). I am going to run Maxima 530MX for very cold weather.
Also, run a spark plug that is approprate for colder weather...again see your owner's manual.

why not just take your brothers 4x4 in the first place? Im sure its just as quiet as the 300</end quote></div>
Becouse he use it for hunting aswell. So if i shot a deer i would just wait till he got out of the woods to go get it with his quad

If your worried about cold weather starts, up the pilot jet size to help compensate for the cold dense air.
Not only will this be a performance boost when its warm, but it will require Alot less choke.
Go up a easy 5 sizes. I dont know offhand whats the stock pilot size. But once you find out, just up the size atleast by 5 points...
One thing I do alot of late night neighborhood creeping from home to trail.
So my solution to the airbox noise was to line the airbox with a course foam. Like what Harddrives and computer parts are shipped in... I cut each peice to fit in snug against the walls of the box so that once they are inplace, they donot move...
Now you cannot even hear the intake noises through the airbox. and considering Im on the stock silencer. this 300ex is Whisper quiet!! Im talking so quiet. you cannot hear me idleing out the driveway 15 feet away!
TYhe only noise that ppl can hear is Tire noise on the pavement... But. LOL there is a silencing trick to that also.. Ride with 2 tires in the grass. :-).
Anyways back on point.. Jet that pilot up to help the cold start. Line that airbox. and emjoy a smooth starting and silent 300ex...
