Popping Wheelie in Sand
#1
I have a Honda 400EX. He is geared very low and so I have to start out in first and immediately shift into second. My bike is also very heavy- the heaviest out of all of our bikes. My aftermarket junk tacks onto the already ridiculous weight. So needless to say, I have trouble getting a good-n-high wheelie in the dirt, let alone in the sand. I try in the sand, and it just wont budge, at all. Any ideas? What can I do to make a bulky bike wheelie in the sand? Any tips will be greatly appreciated

Wow, the EX has a reputation for being an easy wheelie quad, and it's not regarded as being particularly heavy either. Maybe pull that aftermarket stuff off and get an increase in performance....
I geared mine down 1 tooth in front and even with 22" wheels, I couldn't keep the front end on the ground. Are you running paddles?

Maybe you should go to a more aggressive tire or maybe it is time for a new clutch/top end/etc? I have AMS Sidewinders(which look to be along the same lines as the Geckos) and find my front tires are looking for sky easier on sand.

Ya, it is odd you are having problems. My 400ex was dropped a tooth with 22" just like recons and it would pop the front end up with no problems. Work with 'er and I'm betting you'll find the secret to getting it up.

LOL LOL LOL LOL. Thanks guys. I am going to try your idea Kukerdan, just might work. I'll let ya know how it goes. I'm off to hit the dunes this Saturday then going back Wed-Sun of next week...so I'll have plenty of practice. Hope to God it works, I need to figure something out, that's for sure.
