I used to have a 87 250R and really liked it and I know the 400 is more reliable, I was just wondering what you r opinions were. I trail ride and play in the sand also.
Any suggestions?

 

Both good machines, the 400 will be quick, probably ride a lot nicer.
but that 250 is a famous 2 stroke thats hard to beat stock or mod'd

 

Get both. The 250R for the sand and the 400 for the trails!

Hard to argue with that.

 

Or buy a Raptor 700R and do all [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]!

 

The Z is a superb machine, and will be way less trouble than any old machine will be. The 400EX copied the R geometry, and the Z copied the EX geometry.....so they all handle similarly, except that the R is way way lighter.

The R is my favorite quad of all time, but given their age at this point, they are all "project" quads more than "riding" quads. If you are looking for a garage project, get an R, if you want to ride, get the Z.

 

I do love my 250R but mostly for the dunes. I have rode the trails with it a few times, but to me it is a dune monster!!

 

The Z is a great all around bike.
