Replacement Swing Arm Bolt for 400ex
#1
Hey every one. I was just wondering, I for some reason, keep braking the nut end off my swing arm bolt. I use a troque wrench every time I replace it, but it still brakes. I unlike every one else who has a 400ex, have never had a swing arm bolt get stuck? Although, at 35 bucks a pop, I was wondering if any one had any ideas? If I knew the metric size of it, I might try some thread rod or see if I could find a generic bolt instead of a honda extream cost mark up bolt. Any input is greatly appriciated!

could try an atv salvage yard or even ebay to get that bolt at a lower cost. problem with the salvage yard is they may not have the part and ebay is the shipping time.
is the swing arm binding or do you even know what the posible problem is?

I tried to post a picture. The bolt brakes clean off right at the nut and frame. It is such a clean brake it almost looks like it is supposed to be that way. Everything on my quad is in perfect working condition. The swing arm moves like it is supposed to with no binding or tight spots. I just must ride so hard that some how, I am braking this bolt off. I have replaced this thing 5 times in the past year and a half. It is not a big deal, it is very non labor intensive and only takes a couple of minuets, it is just that it keeps happening? I would like to stop spending money on a part of my quad that should last until it rusts out. Anything that I get from a salvage yard is going to be very used, grooved, abused and most likely mushroomed really bad from where it was beat to be removed. Ebay is suprizingly slightly more expensive then the dealer. And by the time you add shipping cost it is just no good at all. Service honda is like five bucks cheeper, but they will charge 8 bucks to ship. If I could only figure out the size of this thing, I could try like some thread rod from home depot or just see if I could find or order a generic bolt.

You could take the bolt to an Industrial Supply Store and see if they have heavier grade bolt that will fit your quad , it's worth a shot i've done this on lawn and garden equipment !......

like williebee says just take the bolt with you and some one will be able to help you fint the right size. i believe that all-thread would be a bad idea do to the fact that its a softer grade then the swing bolt

Yeah, that is what I was thinking. I really didn't want to pull it out until I had a replacement. It is still holding everything together. But beggers can't be choosers I guess!
