clay mud- very harmful to four-wheeler, extremely hard sucktion on quad and hard to get out if u happen to get stuck, may experience break problems, cracking of pipes ect.

dark black mud-little sucktion, stinks really bad, little problems with quad.

brown mud- be careful in this mud. sometimes there is water under this mud. and i wouldnt sit in it to long because the longer u sit the more u sink. high suction. good boggin mud little to no problems

I do a lot of riding in slick, firm red clay. It doesn't take alot of this type of mud to get you stuck. It's also very sticky and not allow tires to clear very easily. As for damage, not really, just don't slide off the side of the trail and into a tree or off of a cliff.

Any kind of real, watery, soupy mud that has a high sand content can be bad for you too. The sand gets into your shocks and brakes, and play havok with components.
