i havent followed the ranchers alot, were all ranchers air cooled? I know the EFI 420 came out last year but wasnt that still air cooled? Or was there a 400AT air cooled for a couple years? Here is the new 2009:

The Rancher 420 had been around a couple of years now, and it is efi/water cooled/manual trans. Mine has proven to be an absolutely superb little machine!!!

Looks like Honda has put the AT automatic trans in this machine, and added power steering. Makes good marketing sense, seeing autotrannies are all the rage, but it comes in at 625 pounds, which is ridicilous! Funny thing is, there are a fair number of posts in here form folks having trouble with their 400AT trannies.

I agree that is to heavy for a Rancher but that weight includes all the oil's and gas too. So really the Rubicon is still heavier counting the liquids.

Man... 625 pounds is super-heavy for a 400ish class machine...

At least it sounds like they gave the 420 auto 5 speeds, to include a low gear...

EPS is Electric Power Steering.

I think EPS would be nice but my concern is if the EPS goes out, can you still steer without it? You know the front end takes a beating.

Oh right, thanks!!! As far as I know the power steering is power assist so if it failed you should be able to steer as normal.
