Default Starts fine, Idles great, put in gear and dies. Any Ideas.

Hello,

New to the ATV thing so please forgive me for asking so many questions. I did order a manual last night though.

Anyway...The 1986 4x4 Fourtrax 350 starts fine, idles fine but when it goes into gear it dies. Any ideas?

I would like to add that when it really warms up then it does not die. Carb. related? One guy thinks at work it is electrical. Any comments are appreciated.

Thanks,
Allen

maybe your idle is set too high and when you put it in gear, it stalls

My guess would be clogged jets in the carb? Has the mancine been sitting unused?

I've had several new carbed Hondas in the last 10 years or so, an they all do that. Give it about 5 minutes to warm up good an that won't happen.

Remove the seat. There are a few wires going over the upper frame rail where the seat rides. They have rubber coated bullet connectors just below the rail. Check these connectors and make sure they are tight. I've seen this issue when shifting in gear and also wen you move around on the seat. They loose connection
Just a thought

By the way, My neighbors 96 TRX300 does the same thing as yours. After about 5 min. of warmup it runs an idles just fine. But it will die everytime until it gets warmed up, just like my new ones do.

Hondas are notoriously cold blooded. They need to be warmed up or they will die. 4 - 5 minutes should do it.
