does everyone else that owns a recon have a problem with them not wanting to run when its cold but other than that the recon will go anywhere i want to go it is awsome

 

Yep the Recon is cold blooded whether its 8 degrees or 80 degrees! Once its warmed up she runs fine......

The choke is worthless, we never use it, its sometime a pain to stand there & bump the throttle to keep it running untils it warms up!

 

My bike is also cold blooded. I dont think its a problem just a minor inconvenience.

Yep, it is cold blooded. I've even read magazine reviews that refer to its widespread reputation for being slow to warm up.

 

I've had more trouble starting a Rancher than our Recon. This past week it was about 25 deg in the morning and it took forever to crank up the bigger one--so long I was worried the battery would fade out before it stayed running. Might be I still don't have the right touch with the choke in cold weather. The Recon coughed and stalled a few times but in a minute or two it ran on its own. No matter what temp it's always been easier to start than the Rancher. But given all their other qualities (like quality) I'll put up with that inconvenience anyday.

snowshark: You also have one of each --how has your Rancher cranked in cold weather?

 

the only way my 300ex will run for the 1st 20 min is if i dont let off the gas,i have to keep at least......1/4 throttle or it dies,but after that,it will idle for 3 hours.

Our Rancher doesn't have any issues starting when its cold outside. Back in the Summer the idle was adjusted (increased) a little. Try increasing your idle speed maybe this will help in starting. There is also a primer, bulb looking device, that can be used when its cold out.

 

I have a 2001 recon and it is very cold blooded, hard to start but after it runs awhile it is fine I read a review in 4 wheel atv action and it didn't say it was cold blooded but the review on atv connection said it was well they were right, other than that I really like it.
