400EX Rear Axle Help

I have a 400ex I'm trying to replace rear bearings on. I was told that both axle nuts are left hand threads. So I am trying to turn them downwards towrds floor. I can get the inner nut (Larger of 2) to turn about a 1/4 turn then stops. The other nut will not budge. Any tips? Also which way does axle slide out once everything is loose? Also how will bearing carrier be removed?

OK, I had the same thing with my 400. The inner lock nut has left hand threads. You need to move this as close to the disc brake flange as possible, then you can turn the outer nut the same way to expose the locking ring. Once you expose the locking ring you unscrew the nuts and remove them from the axle. You then need to remove the disc brake flange and then you can slide the axle out to the left (when facing the rear of the quad)
I could never get the locking nut to loosen so I ended up having to cut it off with a ciold chisel.
Good Luck!
