HRC KIT for the trx 450r & top stock speed
#11
wheres a good site to pickup stuff, the local dealer here has a mark up of around 50% on there stuff. when I say good site I mean good customer service and a fair price.
I unerstand that this may not be alowed to be posted in the open forum, if not please send me a PM with a few links. I hate to be a PITA this is why most of my stuff has remained stock or how I picked it up most of the guys around here either run something because its top of the $$ chart so they figure its best or becasue this is what they see other ppl have and dont bother to question.
So the way I understand this is I should get a hotcam (stage 2) and use the extra $$ money that I save in not buying the HRC kit and put it into a better full pipe? what about the green wire mod?
I like my stock 450r dont get me wrong I can keep up with some of the bigger boys in the short trails and for a little ways the raptor 700, Well I have only ran with one and everytime I would get him off the start about 3rd gear I look back and he is done trying and has some excuse.
I figure he will get me in a long shot run, with me on my quad is just a few pounds heavy than the rap700 w/o rider the power to weight ratio is much better not to mention the rap doesnt handle worth a shi (IMO)

Another thing, My fan kicks on now and then quad doesnt seem to run hot or anything, I have been thinking about running it on a toggle switch and using it full time when I ride.

I can tell you from exp. that the quad WILL run just fine with a slip-on and stock jets. The only time it will backfire is on the DECEL. I ran mine like this for a few months. Never overheated and I still have not had my machine in the shop for anything. Yes, jetting is easy and cheap but it will run with stock jetting and a slip-on.
The green wire mod does nothing but add 1000RPM and void your warranty. If you're worried about your warranty go with the HRC kit and have it installed by Honda. That is the only way you can do engine mods wothout voiding your warranty.

If you do just a slip-on, and keep the airbox stock, this may be true (???). So what would you accomplish???? Probably just making is uselessly louder!
Think about it....if you do mods and don't need a rejet, you have accomplished freaking nothing!!! The idea is to get more air throught the engine, and when you do that you need more fuel....a rejet. If you don't need one, you did nothing.......
A buddy of mine had a bunch of porting done (by a fairly well know So. Calif. builder), and when he was done, it was slower than it was before!

I understand what you're saying, but you are wrong. The slip-on with stock jetting did give slight improvements, once I jetted it was huge. You WILL see a difference. When I put the pipe on I did not rejet right away because I knew I was going to be getting a new filter and running no lid in the near future. I didn't want to rejet twice. I've heard porting does nothing really unless you are running a aftermarket high comp. piston.

I would like to mod my quad as much as possible, however I would like to keep my factory warranty for now. I guess I will go with the HRC kit, will I still be able to run an open air box and full exhaust? (and keep my factory warranty)

Exactly.
I can tell from experience that a good exhaust (Yoshi) with a aftermarket filter with no lid will backfire like a mother before jetting and give no power gain.
Point is if it pops at all why not replace the jet as you should. I'm betting your jaw will drop at the power gain.

Like I said, it is jetted correctly now. When I first put the pipe on I did not. Once I put a new filter and run no lid I changed jetting. There is no way it would run like that.

The HRC kit comes with a new header and talk to your dealer about what the guide lines are.

Everything comes jetted lean from the factory, in order to meet emissions standards. You do even the slightest thing to make it even leaner, and you are going to end up running hot and risk melting a piston or something. It isn't worth the risk....do the rejet! It is even a good idea to rejet a bone stock engine!
