Default Gas mileage

I was reading Quad Magazine last night and there's a guy that wrote in and said he rides his 400EX to work everyday (legal where he lives). He had to put mirrors etc. on it. Anyway, he claimed he gets 41 mpg on the highway and never goes over 50 mph (that has to be close to top speed on a 400EX). I have read elsewhere that 17-18 mpg is about average. Does anyone know ?

Dirttrax tv did a test on utility quads using 400's up to big bores I believe. Driving slow on pavement they ranged from about 30mpg to 38mpg. On the trails and driving like most people do I think the quads ranged from the low 20's to high 20's. They tested quads from a couple of manufacturers on the show too.

It was a z400 and he never went on the highway. It's perfectly capable to do 40mpg it's not a big bore engine, and a z will do 67 so he's not really stressing the engine.

a 300ex will def go 55 if piped and etc... 65 i dono, maybe if theres some real engine work done. 45 mph is real slow for a 300ex. i just sold mine and that thing was never topped out at 45.

no but stock is like 50 now with crazy motor work and crazy gearing it will do 65.i geuss I doubted it's speed i ride a buds 250x and it tops at like 48.I don't think that his gps is giving him an acurate reading, but if it even did go 65 it would take a long time to get there.
