You have to be careful with the EX, because the oil hides somewhere when it sits. I have to warm it up real good, and take a lap around the block before I can get an accurate reading. One of my friends didn't do this, and thought it was low so he topped it up, and the excess pressure blew the lines right off the oil tank!

Anyway, the oil tank holds around a quart, so you still had a quart left between the sump and the oil cooler, so probably you were alright. One big reason for giving you so much oil, is more a matter of cooling than lubrication. That is why they put the extra oil in a tank that sits out in front of the engine in the open breeze.....

I agree with recon.... you need to bring the bike up to operating temp
shut it down and let cool for just a little bit and then check it.....

don't just add oil to the tank when its cold you will put way too much oil in..... don't ask you don't really want to know... just trust me...

it should hold right under 2 quarts from an oil change just draining the engine tank and replacing the filter.

if you were a quart low you would definitely know it your valves would be knocking something fierce....again don't ask how i know....

to be sure drain everything fill her back up with a little under 2 quarts...
run in around for a bit then check.... i bet you'll see oil on the stick then...

When I do an oil change I find I have to fill the tank to the top, then start it up for a couple of minutes. Much of the oil will end up in the crankcase, oil filter, and oil cooler, so the level in the tank will go down to the bottom of the dipstick, or even lower. Then I top the tank up, take it for a short ride, and then check it yet again.
