Default K&N Air Filter

I just purchased an 05 Honda Rubicon and wanted to know if a K&N air filter boosts the performance any. Any pros/cons of using K&N?

IMO dont use a k&n. they really do let in more junk than a foam filter. when i bought my foreman it came with a k&n, i switched to a UNI and have seen 0 diffirence in preformance. with the UNI its piece of mind that im getting the best filtration, and not letting larger particles of dirt threw like k&n dose.

its proven that k&n has more airflow, because it dosnt filter as fine as foam.

I also would not use a gause type filter on something that lives in the dust and grit...

I think the airbox restricts flow more than the stock foam filter does, anyway.

Ideally: foam for dirt and k&n for sand.

Here is an interesting article where they compared various air filters. Granted, it is for a duramax truck, but it is the only independent test of assorted air fliters using ISO testing equipment that I have come across.

In a nutshell, all the aftermarket filters flowed better than stock when clean, but after a little bit of dust was introduced the stock filter flowed better. The stock filter also let the least dirt pass through.

Thanks Jeffin, that was very informative. I think alot of people are duped into believing an air filter will give them more power or better filtration when they really don't. I use them so I can clean them often and they will still work if they get wet.

It sure doesn't hurt to have two filters for each machine, so you can always have a clean one on hand and ready to go, w/o having to wait for solvent to dry...
